How we build a deck
A deck is simple work that is easy to do badly. Footings too shallow, ledger boards lagged into siding instead of framing, joists spanning further than they should — none of it shows on day one, and all of it shows by year three.
We set proper footings, flash the ledger, and size the framing for the span and the height. On a hillside lot, which is most of them around here, that matters more, not less.
If you think you might want it covered or screened eventually, tell us now. Building the cover with the deck costs a fraction of adding it two years later, because the framing and the footings have to carry it either way.

What does a deck cost?
It depends on size, height off the ground and material, so any number on a web page would be a guess. Call and describe what you want and we will get you a real quote.
Wood or composite?
Both work. Treated wood costs less up front and needs sealing. Composite costs more and needs almost nothing. We will price either and tell you what we would put on our own house.
Can you cover or screen it?
Yes. Covered porches and screened rooms are some of our favorite work, and it is much cheaper to build the cover with the deck than to add it two years later.
How long does a deck take?
Most are a short job once we start. The honest constraint is usually the schedule, not the build, so call early if you want it for the summer.
